Responding to Grace By: Ps. Sam Hartanto

Responding to GraceFor by the grace (unmerited favor of God) given to me I warn everyone among you not to estimate and think of himself more highly than he ought [not to have an exaggerated opinion of his own importance], but to rate his ability with sober judgment, each according to the degree of faith apportioned by God to him. Romans 12:3 (AMP)

Many people misunderstand how to respond to God’s grace. Through his teaching Sam Hartanto gives us a new understanding of how we should respond to the grace that God has given us.

1. Not too high, not too low
Often we cannot see the big picture that God has planned because we only focus on ourselves and we can’t see what God sees. Have you ever been in a situation where you saw a beautiful mountain and you wanted to take a picture with it. Then you asked someone else to take the picture while you posed, and unfortunately that person took it too high so that you couldn’t see yourself nor the mountain in the picture. Or he took the picture too close to the ground, resulting in a photograph of the ground plus a little bit of your feet. Something like that happens when you judge the grace God has given you with your own eyes. Do not be arrogant, don’t become prideful when you receive God’s grace. And also in other ways don’t be timid either. That causes you to always compare yourself with others. In every season in our lives, God’s grace will always be there for us to enjoy.

2. Not too fast, not too slow
There are too many children of God who do too many ministries and works, so they just become too busy and are not fruitful. Do not just keep yourself busy and neglect the various aspects of your life. Be the person who will bear much fruit in life. There are many people who have been entrusted with something but they were too quick to respond and just felt excited for a moment, but they did not want to commit themselves to learn more. While on the other hand, there are many people who were too passive to respond to the grace that God has given them. There are many people who choose not to be involved in the ministry and there are many people who were too slow to respond to His grace.

3. Not too far not too close
Not everyone who is in the church has his heart in the church. There are some people who are physically present in the church, but nobody knows where their heart is and they may be far away from God. For those of you who are far away from the Lord, come close and return to Him soon. (Source: Harvest Festival 2014, TIOC Bulletin July 2014)

Responding to Grace
By: Ps. Sam Hartanto

1. Not too high, not too low

2. Not too fast, not too slow

3. Not too far, not too close
